Respect is built into Old Floresta, from the Addison Mizner-era streets to the way neighbors care for one of Boca Raton's historic districts. It is a value parents here already live by, and it is the first thing kids learn on the mat at Xcel Martial Arts. Every class begins and ends with courtesy, kids bow, listen, wait their turn, and speak to instructors and classmates with real politeness. For families in the historic district near Palmetto Park Road, that lesson lands about 18 minutes from your front door.
Head instructor Maria Bacchetta keeps classes small on purpose. When a group is small, an instructor can catch the little moments that matter, a child who cut in line, a frustrated stomp after a missed kick, a classmate who needs encouragement. Those moments become lessons in respect, patience, and self-control. Kids from Old Floresta walk in wiggly and distracted and, week by week, walk out steadier, kinder, and prouder of themselves.
The best part is how easy it is to test. Your first class at Xcel Martial Arts is free, with no commitment, so you can drive the 9.5 miles west, watch your child on the mat, and decide with your own eyes. Classes run right after school Monday through Friday, which means an Old Floresta pickup can roll straight into a lesson your kid will actually be excited about.
Respect
Respect at Xcel is not a poster on the wall, it is practiced every single class. Kids bow onto the mat, address instructors properly, congratulate their partners, and learn that strength and courtesy belong together. The habit follows them home, into how they speak at the dinner table and how they treat teachers, neighbors, and grandparents. In a neighborhood that treasures its history the way Old Floresta does, raising a genuinely courteous kid simply fits.
Focus
Martial arts is one of the few after-school activities where a child has to pay attention with their whole body. A combination only works if you watch, listen, and repeat it precisely, and kids feel the difference immediately. That practiced attention shows up later at a school desk and at homework time. For kids growing up on the historic streets near Palmetto Park Road, an hour of full-body focus is a gift that keeps paying off.
Courage
Courage in a kids class looks small at first. Raising a hand. Trying a kick in front of the group. Getting a technique wrong and trying again without melting down. We build it in tiny, safe doses until standing up tall becomes normal. That quiet bravery matters everywhere, from a new classroom to a first belt promotion, and it starts with one free trial class an 18 minute drive from Old Floresta.
Less Screen Time
Every hour on the mat is an hour a child is not on a tablet. Martial arts gives kids the same things a screen promises, challenge, levels, rewards, wins, except every bit of it happens in their real body with real friends. Kids leave class tired in the best way, and evenings at home in Old Floresta get calmer because the energy already went somewhere good.
